Adobe Firefly | AI Assistant adds agentic creative workflows

Adobe has introduced Firefly AI Assistant, a new conversational interface designed to move creative work from tool-by-tool editing toward outcome-based direction. Announced on April 15, 2026, the assistant uses Adobe’s creative agent to orchestrate multi-step workflows across Firefly and Creative Cloud apps, including Photoshop, Premiere, Lightroom, Express, Illustrator, and more.

Adobe introduces Firefly AI Assistant for prompt-based creative workflows


Firefly AI Assistant is built around a simple idea: designers should be able to describe the result they want and let the assistant coordinate the steps behind the scenes. Instead of manually mapping every edit, crop, adjustment, resize, and export, the user can begin from the outcome and guide the process as the work develops.


The assistant is designed to work across Adobe’s creative ecosystem, with context moving between Firefly and apps such as Photoshop when more precise editing is required. Adobe says final outputs remain editable through native Adobe file formats, which is important for designers who need pixel-level control, layered refinement, and production-ready assets.



How Firefly AI Assistant works


Adobe describes Firefly AI Assistant as a unified conversational interface where users can explain what they want to create while the assistant orchestrates complex, multi-step workflows. The system is expected to maintain context across sessions, surface results, and let the user continue iterating without restarting the entire process.


The assistant also builds on Creative Skills, which are purpose-built workflows for common creative tasks. One example Adobe gives is a social media assets workflow that can crop around a subject, use Generative Extend to adapt an image to different formats, optimize file sizes, save outputs to Creative Cloud storage, and even turn a still image into an animation.


Upcoming changes for design production


The biggest change for designers is the move from isolated tool commands to outcome-driven creative direction. Firefly AI Assistant can suggest actions, execute workflow steps, and respond to edits while the designer stays in control of composition, brand fit, visual hierarchy, and final output quality.


Adobe also says the assistant will become more context-aware over time, understanding the type of content being edited, such as images, video, designs, and brand assets. That could make it more useful for production workflows where designers need fast variations, asset resizing, scene adjustments, retouching, review cycles, and export preparation.


Another important direction is third-party AI model access. Adobe says it is working to expand Firefly AI Assistant capabilities across popular external models such as Anthropic’s Claude, which could make Adobe’s creative workflows available in more places where designers already plan, write, and organize creative tasks.


Public beta timeline


Adobe said Firefly AI Assistant would be available in public beta on April 27, 2026. The assistant is connected to Adobe Firefly, the company’s all-in-one creative AI studio, and is positioned as a way to reduce workflow complexity while preserving professional creative control.


For designers, the best early use cases are likely to be structured tasks with clear goals: social media variations, format adaptation, portrait retouching, image extension, review preparation, and asset organization. For final production, manual review remains important, especially when outputs need brand accuracy, accessibility, licensing review, or client approval.
