Google Slides | Record Presentations With Google Vids
Google is connecting Slides more directly with Google Vids through a new recording workflow that turns presentations into editable and shareable videos. Creators can start recording from Google Slides, capture themselves alongside the presentation or record only audio or the slideshow, and then continue editing the result inside Google Vids.
Google Slides adds a direct video recording workflow
A new Record option is appearing in the right-hand menu of Google Slides. Selecting it opens a streamlined recording experience powered by Google Vids, letting users turn an existing deck into a video presentation without first exporting the slides or rebuilding them in a separate video project.
The recording setup provides several presentation formats. Creators can show themselves alongside the slides using Camera & Screen, record narration without appearing on camera with Audio, or capture only the presentation using Screen. External cameras and microphones can also be selected when a more controlled recording setup is needed.
Recordings can continue into Google Vids for editing
The integration becomes more useful after the recording is complete. Instead of treating the presentation capture as a fixed final file, users can open it in Google Vids and continue editing the video before sharing it.
Google highlights transcript-based editing as one of the advanced capabilities available through this workflow. Transcript trim can help remove unwanted spoken sections through the generated transcript, while Google Vids also provides broader video creation tools that can help turn a straightforward presentation recording into a more polished asset.
Presentations can move from slides to shareable video faster
The recording process outputs a link that can be shared immediately, reducing the number of steps needed when a slide deck has to become an asynchronous presentation, training video, project update, instructional piece, or other recorded communication.
This can be especially useful for creators and teams that already prepare visual material in Slides. Instead of recreating the layout in a traditional video editor before recording narration, the existing presentation remains the visual foundation while Vids handles the recording and subsequent video editing stage.
The previous Slides recording option is not disappearing yet
Organizations that already have access to the previous Slides recording experience will temporarily have both workflows available. Google is moving the legacy option to View > Slides Recording, while the newer Google Vids workflow becomes the more prominent Record option in the Slides interface.
The new integration does not require an administrator to enable a separate control, and there is no end-user setting that needs to be activated. Google is rolling the feature out progressively, so its appearance may vary depending on the account and Workspace release track.
IMPORTANT: Recording through Google Vids currently requires Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. Rapid Release rollout began August 20, 2026, while Scheduled Release rollout starts September 7, 2026, so the new Record option may not appear immediately on every account.{alertWarning}
Daisuki's Take: What This Means for Designers
The useful part of this integration is that a presentation no longer has to remain only a slide deck. The same visual structure can become a narrated video without forcing creators to rebuild every slide as a separate scene in another application.
For designers preparing tutorials, proposals, educational material, internal presentations, or portfolio explanations, the combination of Slides and Vids creates a faster path from static layout to audiovisual content. Transcript editing also makes recorded presentations easier to refine when the visuals are already correct but the narration needs cleanup.
We see the strongest value in lightweight production where the presentation itself is already the main visual asset. More elaborate motion graphics or detailed video editing will still benefit from dedicated tools, but Slides and Vids can remove several production steps when the goal is simply to present, explain, and share visual information clearly.
