Adobe Express | AI Assistant Adds Prompt-Based Editing
Adobe Express expanded its creative workflow in July 2026 with AI Assistant, a new beta experience that lets creators build and edit designs using natural-language prompts. The update also adds brand-aware AI changes, layout correction, image restyling, version history, improved video captions, embedded YouTube content, and several smaller production features designed to reduce repetitive editing.
Adobe Express adds conversational editing with AI Assistant
AI Assistant is the main creative addition in the July release. Instead of navigating through individual tools for every adjustment, creators can describe what they want to change. The assistant can start a design from a description, modify specific elements, restyle images, or help correct an existing layout.
The targeted editing approach is particularly important for design work. A request can change a color, layer, or piece of text without rebuilding the entire composition, while prompts such as "Fix the layout" can improve spacing, alignment, and the overall arrangement of existing elements.
AI edits can follow an existing brand identity
Creators who already use Brands in Adobe Express can attach one directly from the AI Assistant prompt bar. The assistant can then apply elements such as brand colors, fonts, text treatments, and shape changes while working on the design.
This gives prompt-based editing a more useful role in repeatable content production. Instead of asking AI for a generic visual result and manually bringing it back into an established identity, the brand can become part of the editing context from the beginning. Images can also be restyled through prompts or presets, including options such as Kawaii and gel lighting, before additional manual adjustments are applied.
Version history makes experimentation easier to reverse
Adobe Express now provides access to previous versions of a design from the Version history panel. Creators can browse earlier states, restore a previous version, bookmark versions they want to preserve, or open an earlier state as a separate copy.
The available history depends on the account. Adobe lists 10 days for Free users, 30 days for Premium, and 180 days for Teams and Enterprise. For workflows that involve repeated AI edits or several layout variations, this creates a practical fallback when experimentation moves a project in the wrong direction.
Captions, YouTube embeds, and presentations receive workflow updates
Video creators can now resize captions directly on the canvas and apply changes across all captions instead of adjusting each one individually. Caption styling also supports custom and brand fonts from the captions panel, making it easier to keep short-form videos and other branded content visually consistent.
Adobe Express also supports playable YouTube videos pasted directly onto the canvas, while native emoji insertion removes the need to copy characters from another application. For larger presentation workflows, Enterprise users can now create, open, edit, and export desktop presentations containing up to 250 pages.
IMPORTANT: AI Assistant is currently a beta feature on desktop for individual Adobe Express Free and Premium plans. Teams, Enterprise, and Education plans are not supported yet. Adobe currently lists English, French, German, Japanese, Hindi, and Brazilian Portuguese as supported languages.{alertWarning}
Daisuki's Take: What This Means for Designers
AI Assistant is more interesting as an editing layer than as another way to generate a starting design. Being able to ask for a focused color, text, image, or layout change while preserving the rest of a composition is closer to how designers actually iterate on existing work.
Brand-aware prompts can make that workflow more practical for repeated content such as social graphics, promotional assets, thumbnails, or campaign variations. The combination with version history is also useful because faster experimentation becomes much safer when previous design states remain recoverable.
We would still use manual controls for typography, alignment, spacing, and other details that need precise visual judgment. The strongest role for AI Assistant is reducing routine editing and accelerating exploration while leaving the creator responsible for the final composition.
