Adobe Illustrator | Custom Models Come to Text to Vector
Adobe Illustrator Beta 30.8.89 brings Firefly Custom Models directly into the Text to Vector workflow, giving designers a new way to generate vector artwork based on their own visual assets and established styles. The beta build also enables UXP-based Creative Cloud Libraries on Windows ARM and includes fixes for issues affecting Turntable controls and printing.
Custom Models move directly into Illustrator's vector workflow
The main addition in Illustrator Beta 30.8.89 connects Firefly Custom Models with Text to Vector. Designers can train a model using their own assets in Firefly, publish it, and then select that model from Illustrator's Model Picker when generating new vector artwork.
This creates a more direct path between building a personalized generative model and using it during vector production. Instead of generating material in Firefly and moving the results into Illustrator afterward, an available Custom Model can become part of the Text to Vector process inside the application.
Designers can generate vectors around their own visual identity
Firefly Custom Models are trained on selected visual material so generated variations can follow a specific subject, illustration style, iconography, or broader visual direction. Adobe's training workflow includes preparing a set of images, reviewing the training material, training the model, testing the result, and publishing it for use.
Inside Illustrator Beta, the process is relatively direct once a model has been published. Open Text to Vector, access the Model Picker, and choose an available model under Custom Models. Illustrator also provides a Train Custom Model option that opens Firefly when a new model needs to be created.
Custom generation can support repeatable illustration systems
The practical advantage is consistency. A designer producing icons, illustrations, character assets, campaign graphics, or other repeated visual material can train a model around an established direction and use it as another generation option when creating vector artwork.
This does not remove the need to refine generated vectors manually, but it can give the generation stage a more relevant starting point. Instead of describing the complete visual identity through prompts every time, part of that direction can already be represented by the selected Custom Model.
Windows ARM receives UXP-based Creative Cloud Libraries
Illustrator Beta 30.8.89 also enables UXP-based Creative Cloud Libraries for Windows ARM. This expands the beta experience on ARM-based Windows systems by restoring another part of the connected Creative Cloud workflow that designers may use to access reusable colors, graphics, styles, and other shared assets.
The build additionally addresses two user-reported problems. Adobe lists a fix involving Turntable tooltips interfering with use of the Transform panel and another for Illustrator crashing immediately after executing the Print command.
IMPORTANT: Illustrator 30.8.89 is a Beta build, and Firefly Custom Models are also currently offered as a beta capability with access depending on the user's Creative Cloud plan or organizational entitlement. Check current availability before building a production workflow around these features.{alertWarning}
Daisuki's Take: What This Means for Designers
Bringing Custom Models into Text to Vector is more significant than simply adding another model to Illustrator. It connects generative vector creation with visual systems that designers have deliberately trained around their own artwork, subjects, or styles.
That could be particularly useful for projects where consistency matters across many assets. A custom model can help establish the visual direction, while Illustrator remains the place where generated vectors can be selected, rearranged, recolored, and refined using traditional design controls.
We would still treat the generated artwork as a starting point rather than an automatic final asset. The real advantage is reducing the distance between a project's established visual language and the first generated vector, leaving the designer to make the decisions that require precise composition and brand judgment.
