Adobe InDesign | AI Assistant Expands to More Languages
Adobe is expanding AI Assistant in InDesign 21.6 Beta with support for 15 additional language options, making its conversational layout and document-editing tools accessible to more creators. Designers can describe changes in everyday language and let the assistant handle tasks involving document structure, typography, objects, effects, colors, and other production work while keeping the resulting actions available for review.
InDesign AI Assistant becomes available in more languages
In addition to English, AI Assistant now supports Czech, Danish, German, Spanish, Spanish (Mexico), Finnish, French, Hungarian, Italian, Norwegian, Dutch, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Swedish, and Turkish in the InDesign 21.6 Beta.
The expansion matters because the assistant is not limited to answering questions about the application. It can interpret requests in the context of the open document and carry out actions, allowing designers to work through parts of a layout or production task conversationally instead of translating every request into a sequence of menus and commands.
Natural-language prompts can control document structure
AI Assistant can help set up structural parts of an InDesign document through prompts. Adobe highlights operations such as defining grids, adjusting margins, adding page numbers, and aligning objects, giving creators another way to prepare layouts without navigating each individual control manually.
The assistant is context-aware, so it can interpret a request against the document currently being edited. This becomes more useful in larger publications where the same structural change may need to be applied consistently across multiple pages rather than adjusted one element at a time.
Multistep edits can cover typography, objects, and colors
The assistant can also execute workflows that combine several operations. Adobe lists examples such as updating typography, applying effects, resizing objects, and managing colors and swatches from a single request, reducing the amount of repetitive work involved in broad document changes.
This approach can be particularly useful for catalogs, publications, templates, and localized documents. Adobe demonstrates tasks such as applying localized copy across open files or reviewing a 100-page catalog for print readiness, showing that AI Assistant is intended for production workflows as well as individual layout adjustments.
Designers keep control over the assistant's changes
AI Assistant does not automatically lock its decisions into the document. Its actions remain visible through InDesign's native history, allowing creators to inspect what changed and then accept, refine, or undo the result if the automated operation does not match the intended design.
InDesign 21.6 Beta can be installed or updated from the Beta section of the Creative Cloud desktop app. Once opened, AI Assistant can be accessed from the application interface, including the top bar and contextual workflow areas.

Expanding the assistant beyond English makes conversational editing more practical for international production. Layout work already involves language-sensitive decisions, and being able to describe a task naturally can reduce an additional layer of friction when designers are working with localized publications.
The more interesting capability remains the combination of conversation with document-aware actions. Changing typography, margins, colors, or repeated objects across a publication is very different from simply asking an AI how InDesign works, because the assistant becomes part of the actual production process.
We would still review any large automated change carefully, especially in complex editorial layouts where spacing, hierarchy, typography, and print requirements depend on visual judgment. The strongest role for AI Assistant is handling repetitive operations while leaving the designer responsible for the final composition.
